The 2009 WSOP Main Event participants have a day off today as the remaining players will all come back on Friday to play Day 3. This will be the first time the remaining players will all be playing together in one field in this year's Main Event. There are approximately 2,100 players left in the field. Day 2A was played on Tuesday was the much smaller of the two Day 2 fields. There 1,476 players in the Day 2A field with 648 players surviving the day. The chip leader of the Day 2A group is Eric Cloutier who finished the day with 384,000 chips. There were seven players to finish with stacks of over 300,000 chips including Greg "FBT" Mueller who has already won two events at this year's world series.
The Day 2B field was much larger than Day 2A having 2,924 players at the start of play. When the days action was complete 1,486 players survived the day and will come back for Friday's Day 3 field. The chip leader after last night's play, who is also the current overall tournament chip leader is Troy Weber. He has a huge stack of 453,200 chips to work with. There were some of the biggest names in poker who were a part of yesterday's action. Erick Lindgren, Victor Ramdin, Scotty Nguyen, and Howard Lederer all failed to survive the day and their 2009 Main Event's came to an end. Some of pokerweight's heavyweights fared much better though as five well known players finished Day 2B in the top fifteen in chips. Online poker heavyweight Kevin" BeLOWaBOVe" Saul and two well known live pros Kenny Tran and JC Tran all finshed play with large stacks of around 250,000 chips. The big news is that the players widely regarded as the world's top overall player had a huge day yesterday as Phil Ivey shot up the leader board and finished the day with a huge stack of 325,000 chips. It will be exciting to see what he can do with a such a big stack as Day 3 kicks off on Friday.
The remaining 2,100 or so players will all battle and try to finish in the money with the top 648 players getting paid. The final 9 players who represent this year's final table will all walk away as millionaires. Whoever manages to win the whole thing walks away with over $8.5 million and the prestigious title of 2009 World Series of Poker champion.
