Event 50 at the 2009 World Series of Poker was a $1500 Limit Hold'em Shootout with 571 hopefuls at the start of day one play. There were 64 tables as play began with all 64 winners of their respective tables making the money in this event. All table winners were guaranteed a payout of $4,350 but were shooting much higher at the $194,854 first place prize. Some notable players moving on to round 2 of this event were Greg "FBT" Mueller, David Williams, Jean-Robert Bellande, and Brock Parker. Parker is a leading contender for 2009 WSOP Player of the Year Award with two bracelets already won this year. Play for day one was concluded at 3:40 am local time when Marco Locicero won the night's final table.
Day two began with the eight tables of eight players looking to win their second straight table and move on to the final table of eight. The first to claim a seat at the final table was Joep van den Bijgaart. Soon to follow was 2004 WSOP Main Event runner up David Williams. Greg "FBT" Mueller, Mark Naalden, Jose Barbero, and Mathew Sterling all won their tables in fairly rapid succesion. Much later into the night's play Millie Shue came back from a big deficit to beat Ben Ponzio and move on to the final table. The last final table spot to be earned was done so by Flaminio Malaguti as he outlasted Andreas Hoivold to move on to day 3 of play.
The final table began with poker pro David Williams gaining an early chip lead over his tablemates. Jose Barbero was the first to be eliminated earning $13,655 for his eigth place effort. Greg "FBT" Mueller was responsible for the elimination and had a saw a steady rise to his chipstack as the final table played out. Jose van den Bigaart was the seventh place finisher earning $18,136 for his final table showing. Flaminio Malaguti was next to go as his AK lost to David Williams A5 earning him $24,824 for his sixth place effort. Greg "FBT" Mueller notched another knockout when he sent Matt Sterling home in fifth place earning $35,058. David Williams was next to exit finishing fourth earning him $51,145 for his excellent play. The only female to make the final table went out in third place earning Millie Shue $77,138 and the respect of her tablemates to boot. The heads up battle began with Greg "FBT" Mueller starting with over a four to one chip lead over Marc Naalden. Naalden battled back furiously evening the match and taking the chip lead at one point. Ultimately Mueller was too tough and eliminated Naalden in second place earning him $120,614 for a great showing. Congratulations to Greg "FBT" Mueller on winning his second event of this years WSOP earning him $194,854 and the coveted gold bracelet.
