College Football Top 25 teams in 2009

The USA Today top-25 college football coaches poll was released yesterday, and the Florida Gators are ranked as college footballs number 1 team in 2009. It was to be expected that the Florida Gators ranked first since they won the National Championship last season, and have as much as 20+ players returning on the defensive side of football. The biggest returning player for the Florida Gators, is arguably the greatest college football player in the last twenty years, Tim Tebow. Tebow lead the Florida Gators to the National Championship game with his on the field leadership, and lead by example style of play.

Last year's Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford and the Oklahoma Sooners are ranked as the 5th best team in the top-25 college football coaches poll. The Sooners lost last year to the Florida gators in the National Championship game and other coaches must seem to think they have lost some steam since that loss. The Oklahoma football team did lose some of their weapons during the off season, including three receivers that together accumulated 21 touchdown catches for Bradford, as well as 4 starting lineman from last season that all entered the draft. Bradford, however, does have two tail backs that both got over 1,000 yards last season, and all-American tight end Jermaine Gresham returning to the team in 2009.

Last years runner up to the Heisman Trophy Colt McCoy and his Texas Long Horns are ranked number 3 in the College Football top-25 coaches poll. The Long Horns have a good number of returning players in 2009, and the most important player is quarterback Colt McCoy. McCoy finished last season with the highest completion percentage, over 70% of his passes thrown last year were caught by Texas receivers. That was the highest percentage out of any college football quarterback during the 2008 football season.
