Sports Betting News - August 2nd, 2009 - Written by Bruce
Fred Funk started the day with a one stroke lead over second place Greg Norman. When the day was complete Funk shot a 4th Round 65 to separate himself from the field and easily win the 2009 US Senior Open Championship. Funk putted the ball beautifully on Sunday which earned him the second Champions Tour major title of his career. He was never really threatened on the back nine beating second place Joey Sindelar by six shots. Funk played extremely well in both of the last two rounds finishing the weekend at a very impressive eleven under par.
For the entire 2009 season Fred Funk has been dealing with painful shoulder and knee injuries which has hampered his play. He has been remarkable the last two weeks showing that his recovery is going quite well. In last week's Senior British Open Championship Funk had a great week which ultimately ended in him being eliminated in a playoff. In his 3rd Round on Saturday he was very animated pumping his fists and raising his arms for much of the day showing no signs of his injury filled season. Funk has been extremely impressive with his emphatic win in today's US Senior Open and by nearly winning last week's Senior British Open. The day began with much of the talk being about a potentially great battle between both Funk and his playing partner Greg Norman. Funk put an an end to that notion by bettering Norman by eight shots on Sunday on his way to a seven under par final round.
Fred Funk got off to a fast start today when he birdied two of the first four holes to put him a few shots ahead of his competitors. He parred the next four holes before back to back birdies on the 9th and 10th holes. His birdie on the 12th hole put him well clear of the field. Two more birdies on the 15th and 18th holes finished off an impressive final round for Funk which showed he that he is one of the very best Champions Tour golfers. Funk finished the week hitting an impressive 84% of his fairways and 76% of his greens in regulation. He has always been one of the most accurate drivers in the world, leading the PGA Tour seven times in driving accuracy in his career. This US Senior Open title goes alongside his 2005 victory at the Players Championship as the best wins of his career. Congratulations to Fred Funk on winning the 2009 US Senior Open Championship.
