The Miami Heat have a huge cause for concern as forward Michael Beasley reportedly checked into a Houston area rehabilitation facility last week. In recent days, many of Beasley's friends have become worried about him, after reading posts made to Beasley's Twitter account. Suspicions of drug abuse came about when Beasley posted a picture to his Twitter account of a new tattoo which revealed a small bag with an unknown substance in the background.
It is reported that Beasley is being treated for Depression, among other issues. To those close to Beasley, this news comes as a shock, and much is still unknown. Beasley's manager, Bruce Shingler, did not have any new information on the subject. In a telephone interview with the Associated Press, Shingler said "Based on what I'm getting right now, there's a bit of concern. I don't really know what's going on. I just know his mom is on her way to go see him in Houston. That's it. I'm still collecting a lot of information."
All that Shingler knew that Beasley had decided to go to Houston for a "Change of scenery" from Miami and Washington. At this point, it is unknown how long Beasley will be checked into the facility. Chances are that Beasley will be ready to go for the September 28th date in which the Miami Heat open training camp.
Things appeared to be going as planned for Beasley, as he prepared for the upcoming season, but something happened to him upon going to Houston. Shingler said "The last time I talked to him, everything was going well. All this rehab and all that, I was totally unaware. It all started as he wanted to go work out in a different place because he wanted to get away. Now this, I don't know what's going on."
Though in rehab, Beasley posted the picture of the new tattoo, along with the suspicious bag, to his Twitter account. That post was followed by others made by Beasley including "Feelin like it's not worth livin!!!!!!! I'm done" and "I feel like the whole world is against me I can't win for losin"
If this happens to be drug addiction treatment, it will not be the first time Beasley has dealt with these issues. During his rookie symposium, after being drafted 2nd overall in the 2008 NBA Draft, Beasley and others were busted by hotel security after the smell of burning marijuana was detected coming from a room Beasley was in. Initially Beasley denied involvement in the situation but was later fined $50,000 by the NBA.
Although Beasley is in a low light, he is not without support. Family, friends, and the entire Miami Heat organization is behind Beasley in this endeavor. Father, Michael Beasley Sr. is asking for friends and fans to "Please pray for him, he needs it." as posted on Beasley Sr.'s Twitter account, on Monday. Others, including Beasley's coach at Kansas State, Frank Martin stated "Michael, like every student-athlete I've coached, will always have my undying support."
