Sports Betting News - August 18th, 2009 - Written by Glen
With the qualifying match ups on Friday and the race itself on Saturday, NASCAR fans have a big weekend to look forward to. Odds makers from the popular Internet sportsbook, BetUS, have released their take on the match ups.
The qualifying runs have the two drivers involved pitted against one another. The first two racers on the ballot are Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman. Ryan Newman has odds set at -130, while the younger Kahne has odds running on an even line. Greg Biffle and Mark Martin hold the next two lines, pitted against each other with a -110 and -120 respectively. Denny Hamlin meets Kyle Busch in the next set, with Hamlin sporting -130 and Busch running even. Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards meet next, with a respective -130 and even line. Martin Truex Jr. and his -130 will chase Jamie McMurray at -110. Running down the ballot will find Clint Bowyer with -125 against Kevin Harvick's -105. Juan Pablo Montoya with a -120 line will meet with Tony Stewart's -110. Finally, Matt Kenseth will square off against Jeff Burton, with Kenseth running -140 and Jeff Burton running at the best paying odds of the field, a +110.
The long list of racers in the Sharpie 500 have forced us to list only the favorites and the least expected, but the big names are here. Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart are both favored with the lowest odds, as they are set at +700. Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, and Denny Hamlin are all set at +800, placing them right behind Busch and Stewart. Next in line stands Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson at +1000. Earnhardt Jr. rests at +2000, presumably due to his poor performance over the last several races. Pablo Montoya is at an equally lucrative +3000, and he has definitely pulling his weight recently. Kasey Kahne has odds of +1500, putting him close to Montoya and Earnhardt. The field is running at +4000, though some racers have odds as high as +10000.
Carl Edwards took the Sharpie 500 in the last two years, leading analysts to believe that, despite his violent wreck in Telledega this year, he may be able to pull off victory this year. This is only speculation however, as even experts make mistakes. The 500 lap race runs 267 miles and is one of the most popular races of the year. Fans and bettors alike should enjoy this race.
