The USC college football team, is still undecided on who will start under center as the quarterback for the 2009 regular season. The primary candidate is junior quarterback Aaron Corp, however Aaron Corp went down with an Injury during practice this week. USC held an MRI for Corp on Wednesday, and discovered a small crack on the head of his left fibula, Corp is scheduled to be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks.
It was believed that Corp was hurt on Monday afternoon, when a lineman rolled into his knee, Corp returned later to practice after taking a few plays off. Corp did not attend practice on Tuesday afternoon, do to a large amount of swelling on his left knee, the injury will not require surgery since their is no ligament damage. ESPN reports the young quarterback had this to say about the minor set back "It's the best-case scenario," "I'll keep rehabbing and hopefully be back soon." Long time head coach of the USC Trojan college football team, Pete Carroll, had this to say about the injury "This is an unfortunate setback for Aaron but we're encouraged by the diagnosis and that he's going to return quickly."
The highly regarded freshman quarterback Matt Barkley, will begin practicing with the first-team offense in wake of this injury. Though Corp headed into spring training as the number one quarterback on offense, many sports critics wonder how long it will take for the highly skilled and impressive rookie quarterback to get his chance, and this might be the moment for Barkley. ESPN reports Pete Carroll said this about Barkley ""He is out here playing football with these guys like he's been here for a long time."
Barkley is a former Gatorade national player of the year, and he seems to fit in well in this USC offense. Barkley enrolled into USC early in January last year, and began to practice and lift weights with the team early and often. Barkley told reporters "It's been my dream for quite sometime," he said of being the guy at USC. "It's now becoming a reality. I pray a lot about it. It's getting close, but that's no reason to lay off. I'm going to keep my head down and work at it." All facts point into the direction of Barkley starting the 2009 NCAA college football season as the starting quarterback for the USC Trojans.
