Elin Nordegren, the famed wife of golfer Tiger Woods, has agreed to a contract extension to remain married to Woods for at least the next two seasons, according to Yahoo! Sports blog, The Daily Beast.
She agreed to restructure the couple's prenuptial agreement, awarding her a $5 million bonus to immediately be paid by Woods "into an account she alone controls", said the Chicago Sun-Times, and another $55 million in incentives will be activated if she remains a "dutiful wife" until 2012.
It has been a rocky campaign for the former Swedish model, who signed as a rookie in 2004. The couple has been undergoing marriage counseling ever since it was revealed that he was romantically involved with at least three other women, leaving her startled and tarnished, and allegedly chasing him with a golf club.
Because of the reported infidelity, in which Woods admitted to certain "transgressions", Nordegren could have opted for free agency and collected part of a $20 million in a buyout agreement signed at the beginning of the marriage.
But the couple agree to restructure the deal on Thursday, giving her the lump sum front effective immediately, and could receive as much as $75 million in escalators if she remains married for the next seven years.
Woods was apparently shoeless and snoring as neighbors came outside after his single-car accident early Sunday morning. Ever since, members of the media and general public have begun stripping him even further, down to the core to find out just what happened to cause the wreck. The public just can't seem to get enough of it, which is why you can find Entertainment Betting Odds on most of the online sportsbooks.
The most prominent assumption has centered around his alleged affair with at least one woman, and maybe two others -- an affair that allegedly caused his Nordegren to chase him with a golf club and cause him to accidentally steer his Cadillac Escalade into a tree.
There were even more rumors that the couple has entered the aforementioned counseling, and BetUS has several prop bets pondering whether or not they will split by New Year's.
But a divorce apparently won't be in Nordegren's best interest. At least not anymore.
In one foul swoop, she became part wife, part commodity according to the defacto agreement. She will still have to "be a dutiful wife in showing up with him at social events and in public as if they were still the perfect couple, and sign a nondisclosure form that will prevent her from ever telling her story."
With the couple's future still uncertain, it is not known whether the six-year veteran, Nordegren, will begin exploring other options. Nordegren has yet to respond to questions as to whether other teams have expressed interest when her contract expires.
