About that peculiar picture in which Danica Patrick was seen on her website sporting a JR Motorsports t-shirt, NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will allow you to draw your own conclusions - the only one he says is left to make.
“Yeah, I saw that," he spilled to Yahoo! Sports on Friday. "You guys don’t even need those kinds of things to figure out what’s going on a lot of times. But I can’t help you.”
Leaving no blurring lines, Earnhardt told reporters that he believes Patrick is destined to join the NASCAR circuit eventually, and that his JR Motorsports team could be her next stop.
“She’s going to drive stock cars for somebody, someday,” Earnhardt said “It’s just too much of a – look at all the Formula One guys over here looking around, checking [NASCAR] out – the writing is on the wall for her and several other guys."
Patrick has been rumored to be making the switch to the popular American circuit, even after inking a three-year extension with the IRL earlier this week. She has been in the spotlight after donning the notorious shirt on danicaracing.com. She has been in talks with JR Motorsports and could start out in the Nationwide series, a circuit similar to the minor leagues in baseball and the NBDL in basketball. It would give her vital training in stock car racing after primarily competing in Indy-style racing to this point.
“It’s still in the negotiation stages. Her and my sister are managing that entirely. I have not been in any way, shape or form involved,” Earnhardt said.
Earnhardt still has to figure out how he will fill out the sponsorship space for a second car. He currently is struggling to fill space on his own whip for the 2010 season, and although Patrick would easily boost interest, he still can't begin to evaluate a second on-taking.
“It’s a lot bigger than just the Danica Patrick discussion,” Earnhardt said. “It’s a dire situation.”
It is just a matter of time before we see the NASCAR Betting Lines, including Danica Patrick as a favorite to win.
