Last May, star center for the Rockets, Yao Ming, fractured his foot. The injury had not healed, and he was pulled from play. After discussing different options, surgery seemed to be the path to take, and that went down fairly well. While he is going to miss the upcoming '09-'10 season, he will make a come back the following season, and what is expected to be a full recovery.
Ming's surgery saw no complications, and he is expected to return to 100% after a 6 to 8 week recovery period. He is bedridden for at least a week, and will be off that foot for the recovery time. The 7'6" Chinese basketball star will still be receiving his pay, sources say, so the season will not be a total loss.
Foot fractures and breaks have a reputable history of being irreparable, but care had been taken to ensure that Ming will be a star once more. Different techniques were applied in order to reduce the stress and workload of the foot in question.
Basketball is a high impact sport, and injuries like this could land a lesser man out of the game. Yao Ming's return will be a highly celebrated one, as he has become one of the largest (pun intended) stars of the game. Many argue that the Rockets may have progressed further in the playoffs had Ming not been injured, and only time will tell where they go in the 2010 season.
