After a remarkable 3rd round 64, Greg Norman has a one stroke lead heading into the 4th round of Sunday's Senior British Open. Norman played an amazing third round in which he was six under par and had no bogeys putting him at -10 for the tournament. He was in complete control all day and putted the ball beautifully surging him into the lead with 18 holes remaining. Fred Funk was the 2nd round leader but struggled some today shooting a two over par 72 putting him at -9 one stroke back of Norman. Also tied at -9 is Loren Roberts who won the Senior British Open back in 2006.
Norman is hoping to become the fourth golfer to win both the British Open and the Senior British Open. He was the 1986 British Open Champion giving him the only major championship title of his career. Norman who was once the top golfer in the world has often faltered late in majors. He has led 8 different times in major championships after 54 holes but has only the one title to show for it. In fact in last year's British Open Championship held at Royal Birkdale, Norman became the oldest golfer to ever lead a major after 54 holes before faltering in the last round ultimately finishing in third.
Sunday's 4th round is poised to have an exciting finish with so many big names atop the leader board. Greg Norman will be hoping to continue to play the way he did on Saturday which saw him come from well back to take the tournament lead. Fred Funk had a four stroke lead heading into the 3rd round but is still in contention only one shot back. Loren Roberts played well shooting a three under 67 and will be looking to win his second Senior British Open Championship starting only a shot back of Norman. Tom Watson holed a putt from over 60 feet but is six shots back at -4 after an even par 70.
