Roy Halladay pitched a complete game six hitter on Sunday leading the Toronto Blue Jays to a win over the division leading Boston Red Sox. Amid recent trade rumors Halladay was in total control dominating the Red Sox hitters in route to a 3-1 Blue Jays win. He showed why teams are so interested in acquiring him as he threw a six hitter for his 4th complete game of the season and the 44th of his career. He threw one of his most impressive games of the season as he gave up no walks and had six strikeouts going all nine innings. As the the final out was recorded Halladay acknowledged the home crowd as this may very well have been his last game pitching for Toronto.
In recent weeks there has been speculation about whether or not the former Cy Young Award winner will be traded before the July 31st trade deadline. Halladay has been with the Blue Jays for his entire career. He was drafted by them as the 17th overall pick of the 1995 MLB Draft. For most of this decade he has been one of the elite pitchers in the game. Halladay has stated that he loves living in Toronto and playing for the Blue Jays, but he also wants a chance to compete for a World Series. If he is traded he will be huge difference maker for whatever team gets him. Adding a pitcher that goes deep into seemingly every game he starts and who is as consistent as Halladay will likely make that team an instant World Series contender. On the season Halladay now has an 11-3 record with a very impressive 2.73 ERA.
The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead when Rod Barajas drove in two runs with his second inning double. Barajas also added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning which is all the run support that Halladay would need. Amazingly Halladay was his strongest as the game progressed, as he got the final eleven Red Sox hitters out to end the game. Even after the loss Boston still leads the AL East by a game at 55-36, while the Blue Jays improved their record to 46-47.
