Sports Betting News - July 14th, 2009 - Written by Bruce
It's summer time and the summer hoops league has started in Las Vegas. All eyes were on the Clippers Lakers match up, spectators waiting to get their first glimpse at Clippers center Blake Griffin. Griffin didn't disappoint his fans, Even NBA president of operations David Stern was sideline at the game. Griffin got the start for the Clippers as most thought he would and he wasted no time making his presence felt.
In the Clippers first possession, Griffin came up to set a pick and than made a perfect roll off his defender caught the ball and laid it up for the first two points of the game. The next possession Griffin baked a 15 footer of the side of the glass and on his third touch of the game he received a pass, dribbled twice and shoot a three from behind the arc splashing it down. Griffin scored the first 7 points for the Clippers and did so in just 75 seconds. Griffin finished the first half 6-6 a good way to start his young NBA career.
Griffin commented on his growing ability to shoot the three pointer and has decided to add that to his game stepping into the NBA. Yahoo Sports reported Griffin said "That is something i have been working on, something i didn't get to do much in college." Talking about his three point shooting ability.
Griffin ended the summer league game with 27 points and 12 rebounds a respectable effort for any NBA player, the Clippers also won the game against the Lakers 93-82. Griffin led the NCAA in double doubles last year with 30 and the Clippers expect to see the same effort in the 2009 regular season. The win against the Lakers was probably the biggest stat of the night. Though it was just a summer league game the Clippers are not used to seeing wins on their record. The young core of the Clippers Griffin, Gordon, and Thornton will be a force to reckon with for the next four or five years. Griffin is he lead candidate to win rookie of the year and after his first summer league performance i see no other reasons to indicate why he wont be next years rookie of the year.
