Saturday night's UFC 100 had a huge amount of anticipation leading up to it. There was an insane amount of hype for a fight card that featured three premiere fights filled with great story lines. Two of the fights were UFC Title fights while the other featured two fighters who had a genuine hate for one another. The main event for UFC 100 featured the UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar defending his title versus Frank Mir. Mir had beaten Lesnar the first time they fought giving the champion plenty of motivation for their fight last night. Lesnar overwhelmed Mir from the beginning of the fight giving him quite a beating. He used his background as a National Collegiate Wrestling Champion to control the fight on the ground while landing some big punches. With 1:48 left in the second round Lesnar put an end to fight as he was landing punch after punch to Mir's face while controlling him on the ground. Mir looked like a truly battered man when the fight was stopped. He had blood all over his face and a ridiculous amount of bruising that almost looked fake it was so horrific. Lesnar put on a great performance and remained the UFC Heavyweight Champion.
The other title fight featured the widely popular George St. Pierre defending his welterweight title against the Muay Thai champion Thiago Alves. Both fighters are insanely tough and were in superb condition for the fight. MMA experts said that this would be the toughest fight ever for the champion Pierre. From the first round it was evident the Pierre just seemed to be the better fighter and managed to control his opponent for pretty much the entire fight. It was a dominant performance for GSP and he defended his title winning a unanimous decision. He controlled all five rounds and showed why he is known as the top pound for pound fighter in the world. The first of the three mega fights was a match up of the two coaches on this season's Ultimate Fighter show on Spike. Dan Henderson was the coach for Team USA and he was fighting the Team UK coach Michael Bisbing. Bisbing had talked plenty of trash leading up to the fight not showing the former Olympic greco roman wrestler Dan Henderson much respect. The bad blood between the two had built up a great amount of excitement going into Saturday's fight. Henderson clearly had won the first round before a brutal knockout ended the fight 3:20 into the second round. Henderson known for being a historically big puncher, caught Bisbing with a huge right hand which knocked him out. He then followed that up with another big punch which left Bisbing knocked out cold for a few minutes after the fight. There is no doubt that Henderson accomplished his goal of shutting up the load mouth English fighter.
The build up for Saturday's UFC 100 made it a difficult feat for the event to live up to the hype surrounding it. The way these three fights went down with all of them filled with excitement and dramatic finishes made UFC 100 truly a night to remember for UFC fans. Lensar, St. Pierre, and Henderson all put on great performances and looked very sharp for their fights. Fight fans were treated to a great night of MMA action. After last nights domination of their opponents, it will be great to see what all three are capable of next time they fight in the UFC.
