The Philadelphia Phillies won their 9th game in a row last night against the Chicago Cubs, beating the Cubs with a final score of 10-1. The Phillies won their last four games going into the all-star break and have just won their last five games after the all-star break. The Phillies now lead the National league east by 6.5 games over the Braves and 7 games over the struggling marlins. All this with a home record of 23-23, a modest .500 record for the baseball team that won the World Series last year.
The road is where the Phillies have done most if not all their damage this year. The Phillies host a road record of 29-15, the best in all of Major League Baseball. Wining games on the road is a huge advantage for any team, the ability to go into other opponents stadiums and take two games from every series is a strong deterrent from dropping out of the division lead. The Phillies have also gone 25-15 in their own division, the National League East another factor into why they look to make it to the playoffs again this year.
If the Phillies continue to play at the rate they are playing now the chances are they can catch the Dodgers for the best record in the National league and claim home field advantage through out the playoffs. The Dodgers and Phillies faced each other last year in the N.L.C.S. and the way things look now a rematch of last years N.L.C.S is on the horizon for this year.
