Bodog & BetUS Top Sportsbooks For UFC 106 Undercard Betting

Sports News - November 20th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

In addition to the main event at UFC 106, Ortiz vs. Griffin, there are a host of good undercard fights. These fights will feature young and upcoming fighters in the UFC all leading up the headliner of the evening.

As with normal UFC telecasts, there should be around 5 fights including the main event which are part of the pay per view though there are usually around 10 fights total at any given UFC event. For those fight which will not make the PPV, Spike will have them on before the PPV starts, allowing fans to see the preceding matches.

For UFC 106, there are 9 fights on the undercard. For betting purposes, we are going to cover the ones that online sportsbooks have UFC Betting Lines for. Most online sportsbooks typically carry UFC Betting odds leading up to the fights, and this time is no exception.

In the Welterweight fight that will come before the main event, Josh Koscheck (15-4) takes on Anthony Johnson (8-2).

Both fighters want this win, but it is Anthony Johnson who will be in the biggest fight of his young career. Johnson won in his last fight, just over a month ago, in knockout fashion against Yoshiyuki Yoshida. Johnson appears ready for this contest and does not lack confidence.

Josh Koscheck obviously has more experience in the octagon and will be ready to put himself to the test against Johnson. Koscheck is coming off a win against Frank Trigg at UFC 103. Koscheck handled Trigg quickly with his devastating striking, getting the TKO early in the first round.

As for the bettors, from Bodog Sportsbooks, it would appear as though Josh Koscheck is the underdog to win this fight at -105 compared to Anthony Johnson who is at -125. Koscheck is a great striker but Johnson has shown his own knockout abilities.

The next undercard is another Welterweight fight between Paul Thiago (11-1) and Jacob Volkmann (9-0).

Paul Thiago enters this fight as the heavy favorite in a fight that was put together when Karo Parisyan vs. Dustin Hazelett cancelled. Thiago has had success knocking out the likes of Josh Koscheck, but then also losing to Jon Fitch, for the first loss of his professional career.

As for Volkmann, he is a very recent signing to the UFC and has yet to fight against the superior competition. In his short 2 year professional career, Volkmann was able to rack up 9 wins without being defeated. Volkmann will be a heavy underdog on Saturday night.

At Bodog, the line on this fight is almost ridiculous. Currently, Paul Thiago is favored at -250 compared to Volkmann's +190. That is quite a difference, which should end up telling the tale of this fight.

Before that fight, we will most likely see a Light Heavyweight match between Luiz Cane (11-1-1) and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (17-3).

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira comes into his first UFC fight as the favorite, but is sure to have his work cut out for him. Most feel as though Nogueira winning would be a reach since it is his first time in the UFC despite having prior MMA experience. The public seems to be mixed on this match.

The opposite can be said for Luiz Cane. Cane has been dominant recently en route to three straight wins, with that last coming at UFC 97 on a decision. Luiz looks to keep rolling with his experience. Many praise Luiz' striking abilities but it should be equally matched by Nogueira which should make for a good fight.

Different sportsbooks have different odds on this fight, but it is unanimous that Nogueira is the favorite. At Bodog, Nogueira is favored at -160 compared to the +130 that Luiz Cane is getting. Many feel as though an upset is coming.

In last PPV match, Amir Sadollah (2-1) goes against Phil Baroni (13-11) in a Welterweight match.

This is obviously a matchup differing experience levels, one in which Phil Baroni hold the advantage. This will be Baroni's second stint with the UFC, after coming back from Strikeforce. Baroni is coming off a loss in Strikeforce which came to Joe Riggs back in June.

Sadollah is also a previous Ultimate Fighter winner. He enters this match coming off a loss at his first UFC event at UFC 101 to Johny Hendricks, a fight in which he was TKO'd in the first round. Sadollah wants this fight desperately to get his UFC career rolling.

For betting on this fight, BetUS Sportsbook has it covered. Sadollah enters the fight as a commanding favorite with a line of -220 compared to Phil Baroni's +175. Oddsmakers have made it clear who the favorite is in this fight.

Action begins on Saturday night after the 1 hour Spike TV UFC special wraps up. Bettors will have at least until the PPV starts to get their wagers in.
