Buffalo Favorites Over Bowling Green In A Tuesday Night NCAA Matchup

Sports News - November 3rd, 2009 - Written by Scott

buffalo bullsA rare Tuesday night game is set to take place on Tuesday night in the Mid-American conference as Buffalo will play host to the Bowling Green Falcons. Both teams are in the middle of the East division of the conference, but might find it hard to make up enough ground to catch first place Temple without some help. The Falcons are coming off a 24-10 loss to Central Michigan and Buffalo suffered a loss to Western Michigan. The Bulls defeated Bowling Green in their matchup a year ago 40-34.

Bowling Green's offense revolves around their passing game. Quarterback Tyler Sheehan has passed for 2,677 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. He has found great chemistry with wide receiver Freddie Barnes. Barnes is off to a tremendous year and has caught 99 passes for 1,054 yards and 9 touchdowns. The downfall for the Falcons offense has been in their running game. They are averaging only 61.6 yards per game on the ground and must improve in this area in order to be successful against the Bulls. Their leader at running back is Willie Geter who has rushed for 400 yards and only 1 touchdown.

The Falcon's defense has had problems stopping the run all season. They are allowing 201 yards per game on the ground and will once again be tested against Buffalo.

Buffalo also has had most of their success offensively through the air. Quarterback Zach Maynard has thrown for 1,998 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has, however, been picked off 11 times this year. The Bulls running attack has steadily improved over the course of the season. They are led on the ground by Ike Nduka. He has rushed for 568 yards and 5 touchdowns. Naaman Roosevelt and Brett Hamlin have emerged as Maynard's go-to receivers and have combined for 1,434 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Bulls have struggled with turning the ball over this season as they have 17 on the year.

The Bulls bright spot on defense is their pass defense, despite allowing 350 yards through the air last week against Western Michigan who racked up 505 total yards. They have not done a good job of stopping the run and are allowing 158 yards per game, but should not be tested very much by Bowling Green.

Buffalo will be favored by 3 coming into the game according to BetUS sportsbook. The over/under is set at 54 and the total has gone under in 6 of Bowling Green's last 9 games. Both teams will be looking to become bowl eligible and move up in the NCAA College Football Rankings.
