Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen Punched By Fan

Sports News - November 24th, 2009 - Written by John

jimmy clausenNotre Dame fans are not pleased with their team's performance, and one fan went the extra distance to let quarterback Jimmy Clausen know.

Early Sunday morning, just hours after the Irish's overtime loss to Connecticut that dropped them to 6-5, ESPN reported that a fan punched Clausen in the face outside a restaurant near campus. Witnesses said that Clausen appeared to have a swollen eye because of the attack, which was characterized as a "sucker-punch".

The incident happened as the junior was leaving the restaurant with his parents. Earlier in the evening, the fan reportedly saw Clausen in the restaurant and said something derogatory about him.

The injury to his eye is not likely to keep him out of this week's game against Stanford.

Clausen has remained one of the top quarterbacks throughout the 2009 NCAA Football Season, despite a pedestrian record. He has thrown for 3,382 yards and 23 touchdowns with only four interceptions. His passer rating of 156.45 is eighth-best in the country and he likely would've been a Heisman candidate if not for the poor record, showing better numbers than the other front-running quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy.
