Texas On The Move In BCS Poll

NFL News - November 2nd, 2009 - Written by John

One thing is perfectly clear. Texas will play in the National Championship game if it wins out, and an undefeated SEC Champion will be it's opponent. So the shuffling of the recent BCS polls is superficial, at best, but does serve to reward the Longhorns after a convincing effort last week.

Texas jumped to no. 2 in the computer polls after drilling no. 19 Oklahoma State, 41-14, jumping Alabama for the first time this year. The Longhorns got the edge by a mere .0061 difference over the Crimson Tide. In fact, both teams of the teams at the top of the polls took advantage of Alabama's off-week.

The top-ranked Florida Gators also blew out Georgia in the annual meeting in Jacksonville.

Despite watching the Bulldogs pull off their celebratory stunt they did in the 2007 game, pouring their team onto the field after a touchdown that made it 14-10 and drew a penalty, the Gators responded with a touchdown that sent it into halftime with a 14-point lead and eventually won by 27.

Behind the top-three is were the meat of the BCS' importance lies. Iowa had to rally late to beat Indiana and is no. 4 and behind them are three other less-distinguished, yet undefeated schools fighting for a right to play for a title for the first time.

Cincinnati takes up the fifth spot, followed by TCU and Boise State. Boise State remains at the back of the pack because of their poor schedule, but has the best win of any team in the top-six after pounding Oregon in the season-opener. The Ducks only improved Boise State's argument by blowing out previously fourth-ranked USC.

Oregon has since moved into the eighth spot and the Trojans fell to 12th.

The win should be enough to consider Boise State as a very good football team, but the Broncos still appear to be the oddest of the odd-men-out.

An SEC Champion making the title game is not necessarily a guarantee. Alabama will play it's biggest game of the year when LSU comes to town ranked ninth in the newest polls. The Gators also have games at South Carolina and against Florida State on their schedule.

South Florida is back in the polls at 25 after stunning West Virginia, 30-19, at home on Friday night.
