NFL News - October 21st, 2009 - Written by Scott
After jumping past Florida as the No. 1 ranked team in the NCAA College Football Standings, Alabama will host Tennessee in a key SEC matchup. Tennessee (3-3) will come into Tuscaloosa riding a wave of emotions after their overwhelming 45-19 win over Georgia. The Crimson Tide beat South Carolina last weekend 20-6 and improved their record to 7-0. Alabama really makes it a no brainer, when it comes to NCAA College Football Betting. A win for Alabama is huge because they are only one game ahead of LSU in the SEC West. The Volunteers are sitting at 4th in the SEC East and their shot at a conference championship is all but gone. They still have a lot to play for as they look to get back to a bowl game after their absence a year ago.
Alabama's offense has struggled over their past few games. Quarterback Greg McElroy has been inconsistent over this span and will need to get back on track for the last half of the season. He has thrown for 1,325 yards and 9 touchdowns. The Crimson Tide's running game has been very explosive this season. Mark Ingram leads the way in rushing with 905 yards and 8 touchdowns. Their receiving group, which has 6 receivers with over 100 yards, is led by Marquis Maze and Colin Peek. They have combined for 474 yards and 3 touchdowns. Alabama's offense will need to come back to life against a good Volunteer defense.
The defense for Alabama is arguably one of the best in the country. They are only allowing 11 points a game and have only surrendered more than 20 points twice. They have also not allowed a touchdown in their past two games. Tennessee's offense will have to find some holes in this dominating defense to have any chance on Saturday.
Tennessee's offense finally came to life against Georgia after struggling in their previous four games. They racked up 472 yards in their win over the Bulldogs and will need to continue this type of effort against Alabama. Quarterback Jonathan Crompton has been inconsistent all season and will need to have the type of game he had last weekend. He has thrown for 1,210 yards and 13 touchdowns, but has 9 interceptions on the year. Their running game has been consistent though and is led by Montario Hardesty. He has 672 yards and 6 touchdowns. He will be challenged by Alabama who is very good against the run.
The Volunteers defense will also need to follow up with their performance last week where they held Georgia to just 241 total yards. They have been able to force turnovers, including 3 last week, and must hope this trend continues against Alabama if they are to be successful.
Alabama will be favored by 15 against Tennessee on Saturday according to Betus Sportsbook and in their last five games against the Volunteers, Alabama is 4-0-1 ATS.
