Beckham Headed to AC Milan Again

NFL News - October 15th, 2009 - Written by John

david beckhamAmerica's attempt assimilate soccer star David Beckham into it's culture is once again at a crossroads. ESPN reported today that Beckham will again be returning to his first love in Europe agreeing to play for AC Milan at the beginning of next year. It is the second time this year the Los Angeles Galaxy has agreed to loan the midfielder to the Champions League team since he signed with a five-year deal with Los Angeles in January of '07. Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed the exchange to publication Sky Sport Italia on Thursday.

"David Beckham's return on loan in January is already a done deal," Galliani said.

Officials indicated that talks for his signing had been going on for several weeks.

It raises many questions once again to whether Beckham will be in America much longer after failing to popularize soccer in America. He has been in and out of Los Angeles' lineup with injuries and was previously loaned to Milan for six months earlier in the year. has been publicly criticized by teammate Landon Donovan for indifference to the league and the United States. In his book The Beckham Experiment, which was released last July, Donovan accused Beckham of being lazy and disloyal to the team.

"When David first came, I believed he was committed to what he was doing," an excerpt in the book read. "But somewhere along the way he just flipped a switch and said “Uh-uh, I’m not doing it any more”. My sense is that David thinks it’s a joke.

"All that we care about at a minimum is that he committed himself to us. If someone’s paying you more than anybody in the league, more than double anybody in the league, the least we expect is that you show up to every game, whether you’re suspended or not.

"I can’t even say he’s a good team-mate any more. He’s not shown that. I can’t think of another guy where I’d say he wasn’t a good team-mate, he didn’t give everything through all this, he didn’t still care."

His comments led to a media firestorm, brewing up a battle between the two and it is believed they have been at-odds with each other ever since. Attendance is way down for the Galaxy and it has become more and more apparent that America is just as indifferent about Beckham's appearance as he is. Beckham will use the six months to re-tune his skills in preparation for the 2010 World Cup.
