Florida State Looks To Salvage Their Season At Boston College

NFL News - October 1st, 2009 - Written by Scott

fsuFlorida State offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher made a statement to his players following their huge upset at BYU two weeks ago and said that "we have crossed a line and cannot go back." After struggling to get a victory over Jacksonville State the week before, Seminole nation felt strongly that their team was on it's way back after defeating the Cougars. After losing to South Florida 17-7 on Saturday, it is now apparent that they did in fact go back across that line and the entire Seminole nation is down right upset.

The only thing that will put FSU fans at ease is an ACC title. They will get their shot at achieving this goal on Saturday as they travel to play Boston College in an Atlantic division matchup. Boston College is coming off a 27-24 win over Wake Forest last weekend and improved their record to 3-1.

Turnovers, missed assignments, and a defense surrendering big plays is the story of this years' Seminole team. The offense is led by Christian Ponder, who has the ability to hurt you through the air and on the ground. He has thrown for 1,082 yards and 4 touchdowns. Ponder has only thrown 1 pick this year and is the team's second leading rusher. Ty Jones has been the standout in their rushing attack and has 228 yards and 4 touchdowns. However, running back Jermaine Thomas appears to back with the first team this week and is back at full strength after suffering a knee injury in their season opener against Miami. They will have to rebound from a four turnover performance that they had against South Florida to be successful against the Eagles. Defensively, this is not the same defense that FSU has hailed in years past. They are ranked 99th in total defense and continue to give up big plays. This has got to stop if the Seminoles have any chance of salvaging their season.

Boston College managed to revive their offense last week after only getting 54 yards of total offense the week before against Clemson. They got 169 yards rushing and quarterback Dave Shinskie had 228 yards passing and 3 touchdowns in his first start. He has not been appointed the starter this week, as Justin Harris is in the quarterback battle. They are led in rushing by Montel Harris who has 270 yards and 3 touchdowns on the year. The Eagle's defense is strong this year and is ranked 18th in the nation in total defense. They are also ranked 16th in the nation in passing defense, but they have not faced a passing attack that Florida State will bring.

FSU will be favored on the road by 4 points according to Betus sportsbook and the over/under is set at 46. The big question in this matchup will be which Seminole team will show up on Saturday...the one that went to BYU and upset a Top 10 team, or the one that lost to South Florida?
