Harris Triumphs, Beats Oklahoma

NFL News - October 4th, 2009 - Written by John

harrisSam Bradford paced up and down the sidelines, towel around his neck, agonizing over his inability to do something. After the Oklahoma Sooners jumped to a quick 10-0 lead over Miami, Bradford watched his predecessor crumble in the Miami heat and there was nothing he could do about it. The Hurricanes scored two quick touchdowns in the second half and limited Oklahoma to a mere field goal in the final quarter, rolling to a huge 21-20 win Saturday night.

"Big, huge win for us," Miami coach Randy Shannon said on ESPN.com. "It's huge."

Bradford was held out of his third straight game after suffering a shoulder injury. Head coach Bob Stoops opted to stick with Landry Jones when Bradford only showed light improvement in practice. Instead, gone are the Sooners title hopes and the only thing left on their plate is next week's Red River Shootout against Texas. A win over the Longhorns could knock them out of the title picture, too.

Jacory Harris threw two interceptions in his first two drives, but never seemed to get rattled. He laughed it off, and went on to connect on three touchdowns passes to three different receivers and returned to the form that produced whispers of Heisman candidacy. His only marr on the season was a rain-soaked loss against no. 6 Virginia Tech.

Javarris James had a career night on the ground, running for 150 yards and was intstrumental in the final minutes of the game. With the game still hanging in the balance, Miami inherited the ball with four minutes to go and hoped to eat up as much time as they could. James did. All of it. An 11-play drive spelled disaster for the Sooners, who had no more time outs, and their offense never got back on the field.

"We accepted this challenge," James boasted. "Big players have to do it in big games. And this was a real big game for us."

But the 'Canes seem to be back on track, winning against a top-10 team for the first time in their last five tries, while Oklahoma is off to it's worst start since 2005.

"It's our time," linebacker Jordan Futch said. "We are back. We are still The U."
