On The Road Against Army, Rutgers Favored By 10 On Friday Night

NFL News - October 21st, 2009 - Written by Scott

rutgersIn Friday night's game between Rutgers and Army, both schools will look to get back on the winning track after suffering losses in their last games. Neither one of these teams have faced a tough schedule and that is reflected in the NCAA College Football Standings. The Scarlet Knights lost to Pittsburgh 24-17 after winning four straight. Army lost to Temple and now have lost three of their last four games. The Black Knights (3-4) have not won four games since 2005 and are looking to surpass that total this year. Rutgers (4-2, 0-2) will look to get a win and gain some momentum as they head back into Big East play next weekend.

Rutgers offense has shown the ability to move the ball and is led by quarterback Tom Savage. He has thrown for 941 yards and 5 touchdowns. Their rushing game has been the strong point on the offensive side of the ball. Joe Martinek leads the Scarlet Knights' group of backs with 434 yards and 5 touchdowns. They also have two other running backs, Jourdon Brooks and De'Antwan Williams, who have rushed for over 200 yards and they have added 5 touchdowns. Rutgers has a great playmaker at receiver in Tim Brown. He has 548 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns.

The Scarlet Knights have done well on the defensive side of the ball and are limiting their opponents to just 12 points per game. They have also shown the ability to force turnovers and have done this in 12 straight games. Controlling Army's rushing attack and forcing them to go to the air will be key in their game on Friday.

Army has gotten most of their offensive production on the ground this season. Their problem has been the lack of point production and have only topped 20 points in two games. They are led by freshman quarterback Trent Steelman. He has passed for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns. Steelman has done most of his damage on the ground where he leads the team in rushing with 407 yards and 3 touchdowns. Running backs Patrick Mealy and Kingsley Ehie have combined for 699 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The defensive group has played well this season, despite the lack of help from their offense who is having problems with sustaining drives. They have done a good job of limiting their opponents yardage, but are still giving up too many points.

Rutgers will be favored by 10 on the road against Army according to Betus Sportsbook. Rutgers is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games when playing Army and Black Knights are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games at home.
