NFL News - October 10th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy
It appears as though the #1 Florida Gators will be playing with QB Tim Tebow, when playing against #4 LSU on Saturday at 8pm EST.
Gator head coach Urban Meyer said earlier in the day that Tebow would play if he was medically cleared. "If he's ready to play, cleared to play, we're going to play him," Florida coach Urban Meyer said Saturday morning in an interview with ESPN's Tom Rinaldi.
It is still unknown whether or not Tebow will start for the Gators, but it is known that he has been cleared to play, as reported by the Gainesville Sun and CollegeFootballTalk.com
On Friday, the official word was that they were waiting to see how Tebow handled the flight to Baton Rouge, LA. Statements like those are not what fans want to hear when relying upon a big, physical QB like Tebow.
Currently, the Florida Gators have the number 1 rushing offense in the country. While normally a quarterback doesn't have much to do with that, Tebow has everything to do with it. Tebow is the Gators' second leading rusher with 271 yards on 55 carries with 5 touchdowns. While Jefferey Demps leads the team in rushing, Tebow is the key cog to the offense Meyer has built.
Should Tebow not play, or leave the game, he would be replaced by Florida sophomore QB John Brantley. Coming into this game, Brantley has completed 22 of 30 passes for 232 yards, and 4 touchdowns. Numbers like those would indicate that Brantley is a worthy replacement. Brantley currently has a higher QB rating than Tim Tebow.
The college football world will have to wait and see whether Tebow plays much of a role against the LSU Tigers. With that said, Oddsmakers seem to be convinced Tebow will play and be effective. Since yesterday, the line in this game has moved from Florida (-7) to Florida (-10). Earlier this week, this game was close to being a Pick 'Em game, depending on the College Football Sportsbooks.

Once game time rolls around at 8pm EST, we should learn the game status of Tim Tebow. Nationally televised coverage will be carried on the CBS Networks.
