(9) Miami Favored By 2 1/2 On The Road (11) Against Virginia Tech

Sports Betting News - September 23rd, 2009 - Written by Scott

miami hurricanesIn what appears to be the biggest game in Week 4 of of the college football season, No. 9 Miami will travel to No.11 Virginia Tech in an ACC showdown. Miami is 2-0 and Virginia Tech is 2-1, and both are coming off big wins last week. Both of Miami's wins have come against ranked teams. The Hurricanes routed Georgia Tech last Thursday by completely shutting down the Yellow Jackets' prominent rushing attack. The Hokies won in dramatic fashion after having to come from behind to beat Nebraska 16-15, their first come from behind victory since 1999. This will be Virginia Tech's first ACC matchup of the year.

The Hurricanes are in the middle of their grueling four game stretch. They have beaten Florida State and Georgia Tech, and now face the Hokies this week and then play at home against Oklahoma. Miami, which is averaging 465 yards per game, is led by quarterback Jacory Harris who has lit up their first two opponents through the air. He has passed for 656 yards and 5 touchdowns. He has thrown to twelve different receivers while completing 69.5% of his passes. The offensive line has been strong after surrendering only one sack so far this year. Defensively for the Hurricanes, they had a strong outing last week against Georgia Tech and only gave up 95 yards rushing to the Yellow Jackets. The key for them will be containing Virginia Tech's Tyrod taylor.

This year, the Hokies have shown that they can make huge plays offensively, which was something they lacked last year. Despite going 12-27 and just 192 yards against Nebraska, Hokie quarterback Tyrod Taylor showed his heroics in the final two minutes of the game to bring his team from behind and get the win. On the year, he has thrown for 444 yards and 3 touchdowns. His play making ability is the driving force of their offense. The Hokies are led in rushing by Ryan Williams, who has rushed for 342 yards and 6 touchdowns. Questions still remain on the offensive line as they could not stop Nebraska's front four. Defensively last week against the Cornhuskers, they did keep them out of the end zone, but they allowed a 100 yard rusher for the third straight week. The good news for the Hokies is that they will have starting cornerback Stephan Virgil back this week against a great Hurricane passing attack.

The Hurricanes will be favored on the road against the Hokies by 2 1/2 according to Betus sportsbook. This game is extremely important for the Hokies as Miami already has two conference wins. If the Hokies should lose, they would need Miami to lose twice, and Miami has looked impressive so far this season.
