The 2009 college football season is sure to display quite a few excellent running backs. Bodog.com has five listed in a matchup as to who will have the most rushing yards. This compelling matchup is between Jahvid Best, Noel Devine, Johnathan Dwyer, Kendall Hunter, and Evan Royster. All five surpassed the 1000 yard mark in 2008 and should at best equal their rushing yard totals from a year ago. California's Best leads this group and in 2008 had 1,580 yards on the ground and interestingly had the least amount of attempts of the five with 194. Hunter, from Oklahoma State, had the second most yards by gaining 1,555 on 314 attempts last season. Georgia Tech back Dwyer comes into this season after rushing 200 times for 1,395 yards. West Virginia's Noel Devine rushed 206 times for 1,289. Finally, Evan Royster, in 2008 had 1,236 yards on 321 rushes. All are great backs and if healthy, should come out of 2009 with high rushing totals. The odds in this battle are Best at 3/2, Hunter at 2/1, Dwyer at 5/2, Devine at 4/1, and Royster at 7/2.
This year will feature quite a few receivers who should have great years again in 2009. There is an intriguing matchup between quarterback's Robert Griffin and Terrelle Pryor and which one will emerge with the most combined passing and rushing yards. Only 322 total combined yards separated the two in the 2008 season. Baylor's Griffin comes off a respectable year in 2008. Noted as one of the most exciting players in the country, Griffin connected on 160 passes in 267 attempts for 2,091 yards last season. The sophomore quarterback also added 173 yards on the ground. Pryor, Ohio State's quarterback, passed for 1,311 yards on 165 attempts in 2008. Also, the preseason Big Ten player of the year winner, rushed for an additional 631 yards. The Buckeye's this season have noted that they will look to throw the ball more in 2009 which could increase his passing yards greatly. Bodog.com has the odds in this matchup at Griffin at -105 and Pryor at -125.
