Boise State Begins WAC Play As 7 Point Favorites Over Fresno State

Sports Betting News - September 16th, 2009 - Written by Scott

boise stateBoise State is looking for it's seventh Western Athletic Conference title in eight years and it all begins Friday night as they travel to play Fresno State.  A BCS Bowl berth could  on the horizon for the Broncos if they can remain undefeated in their conference.  This looks to be a reality as they are 52-4 in conference play since 2002.  After a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Wisconsin on Saturday,  Fresno State will be facing yet another tough opponent in 10th ranked Boise State.  Despite a lousy first half by the Broncos, Boise State defeated Miami of Ohio 48-0 this past Saturday.   These two rivalry teams should put on a great show Friday night.  Fresno state will be looking to end their nine game losing streak against ranked opponents.

Friday's game against Fresno State begins a tough stretch for Boise State over the next five games, as four of these are on the road.  Quarterback Kellen Moore has been impressive as expected this year and has passed for 504 yards and 5 touchdowns.  He has used his two play makers in Austin Pettis and Titus Young, both wide receivers, to his advantage as both are close to 200 receiving yards in two games.  The most impressive aspect of this Bronco team has been their strong defense.  They have given up only eight points all season and have given up only one play longer than 27 yards.  Fresno State will have a hard time moving the ball on a team that is allowing less than 200 yards per game.

Fresno State must forget about their tough loss to Wisconsin on Saturday.  Quarterback Ryan Colburn has played well so far, passing for 450 yards and 5 touchdowns, but needs to focus on making better decisions.  He has already thrown four interceptions in their first two games.  Running Back Ryan Matthews, who has rushed for over 100 yards in their first two games, needs to have a good game as the Bulldogs like to run play action pass plays.  A few injuries on the defensive side of the ball could cause some concerns for Fresno State.  Defensive end Chris Carter and safety Lorne Bell are both injured, but Bell is definitely out for this game.  They need to do a better job of stopping big plays and Boise State is very capable of doing this.

This should be an exciting game in this rivalry matchup.  As expected, Boise State enters the game as 7 point favorites with payouts for both teams at -110.  BetUS has listed the odds and they have the over/under at 53 1/2.
