BYU 24 1/2 Point Favorites At Home Against Utah State

Sports Betting News - September 29th, 2009 - Written by Scott

BYUIn college football action Friday night, BYU will host Utah State in an out of conference matchup.  The 20th ranked Cougars rebounded last week after a devastating home loss to Florida State two weeks ago with a 42-23 win over Colorado State.  The Aggies got their first win of the year last week with their 53-34 victory over Southern Utah.  In their meeting last year, BYU got a 34-14 win over Utah State.  This could be a high scoring game as both teams have impressive offenses.  How each defense performs will factor into the outcome.  The Aggies are huge underdogs and must find a way to limit BYU's point production in order to be successful.

BYU's offense has been outstanding this year and is averaging 34 points per game.  Max Hall, who might have lost his chance at a Heisman Trophy in their loss to FSU, has been spectacular so far this year.  He has thrown for 1,185 yards and 8 touchdowns.  His only downfall is that he has also thrown 8 interceptions.  He is blessed with talented receivers, with four surpassing the 100 yard mark in receiving yards.  McKay Jacobson is his favorite target and has 280 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Running back Harvey Unga looks to be back at full speed after being hampered by a hamstring injury during their first three games.  He rushed for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns last week.  The defensive secondary will need to recover from last week after giving up 372 yards passing.  They have done a good job of stopping the run and this will need to continue this week as Utah State brings in a talented group of running backs.

Utah State has been equally impressive on offense this year.  They piled up 604 yards of offense last week and are averaging 33 points a game on the year.  Quarterback Diondre Borel has passed for 771 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Their strength is in their running game. They have three backs who have rushed for over 100 yards.  Robert Turbin leads these backs with 373 yards and 3 touchdowns.   Missed assignments on the defensive side of the ball continue to haunt the Aggies.  The front line will need to pressure BYU's quarterback, as he has been prone to make poor decisions while under pressure.

BYU is coming into the game as huge favorites.  BetUS sportsbook has them as 24 1/2 point favorites against Utah State.  The Aggies will have their hands full with trying to contain the Cougars' explosive offense.
