Nevada entered this season as a team that could potentially challenge Boise State for the WAC title. They have not lived up to these expectations and have started the season 0-2. Things do not get any easier as they host undefeated Missouri Friday night in the Wolf Pack's first home game of the year. Missouri is coming off a 52-12 win over Furman last week. Nevada lost it's second game of the year last week 35-20 against Colorado State. In last season's matchup, Missouri demolished Nevada 69-17.
Missouri's offense has experienced much success through the air so far this year. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert has thrown for 747 yards and 8 touchdowns this year and is benefiting from great play out their offensive line. One important fact is that he has no interceptions on the year. He should have a great night against the Wolf Pack as they allowed Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen to pass for 315 yards and 4 touchdowns. Their running game is led by Derrick Washington who has rushed for 226 yards and 2 touchdowns. They struggled to get their rushing game going last week against Furman, but great play from Gabbert led the offense in their route. Defensively, they need to apply pressure early and often against the turnover proned Wolf Pack.
Nevada fans are growing restless and frustration is starting to mount. Their offense has been far from impressive in their first two games as they are only averaging 10 points per game. Turnovers have plagued the Wolf Pack as they have turned the ball over eight times in two games. This is surprising as they return the WAC offensive player of the year from a year ago quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has thrown for 400 yards and only 1 touchdown. His decision making this year has been questionable as he has already thrown 4 interceptions. They also have running back Via Tuau, the league leading rusher last year, who has rushed for only 209 yards and 2 touchdowns. Big plays have killed Nevada's defense this year as they have allowed 6 touchdowns of 25 yards or more. This must stop this if they are to stop Missouri's explosive offense. In last season's game, Missouri passed for 519 yards.
Nevada must cut down on turning the ball over if they plan on staying in the game with Missouri. Nevada is entering the game as 7 point underdogs according to Betus sportsbook and must win back their frustrated fans to gain any momentum with having the home field advantage.
