Nebraska 5 Point Underdogs On The Road Against Virginia Tech

Sports Betting News - September 16th, 2009 - Written by Scott

nebraskaNebraska is coming into Saturday's game against Virginia Tech looking for revenge after losing to the Hokies a year ago.  Unfortunately for the 19th ranked Cornhuskers, they will have to attempt to do this on the road.  Nebraska is also trying to end the Hokies' 31-home game non-conference winning streak as well.  Both teams are coming off impressive wins against weaker opponents.  Virginia Tech beat Marshall last week and Nebraska defeated Arkansas State.  Nebraska appears to have a much improved offense, but it will face a tough Hokie defense which was ranked in the Top 10 nationally in both total defense and scoring defense a year ago.  The series between these two is tied at one apiece, with the Hokies winning last year in Lincoln 35-30.

Virginia Tech (1-1) is led by quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who is both a threat on the ground and in the air.  The offense rebound last week after gaining only 155 yards in their opener against Alabama.  Taylor has passed for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns on the year.  The Hokies' rushing game is led by Ryan Williams who has rushed for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns.  The defense has improved greatly since the Alabama game where they gave up 498 yards to the Crimson Tide.  They only allowed 10 points and 252 yards against Marshall.  Nebraska, however, is a much better team and will be a good gauge to see if their defense has in fact improved.

Nebraska is 2-0 on the year and looking to get their program back among the nation's elite.  This will be the first big test for their offense who will be going against one of the nation's best defenses.  Zac Lee has benefited from great protection from his offensive line.  He has passed for 553 yards, 6 touchdowns, and only one interception.  How his line does Saturday could have an huge effect on the outcome of the game.  The key for the Cornhusker's defensively will be containing Taylor, who last year passed for 171 yards and rushed for 87 more against Nebraska. Virginia Tech has given up eight sacks already this year so look for the Cornhuskers to bring pressure.

Sportsbook Betus has Virginia Tech favored at home by 5 points.  The over/under for the game is at 51.  Virginia Tech is riding their non-conference home winning streak, but Nebraska is a team that break this achievement.  This will be a great game against two nationally ranked teams.
