Sports Betting News - September 4th, 2009 - Written by Scott
After falling to Florida 24-14 in BCS Title game last season, Oklahoma is on quest to get back to the heralded season finale. The No.3 ranked Sooners will get a tough start right out of the gate, when they play No. 20 Brigham Young on Saturday in the Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, TX. BYU is looking to make a statement in 2009 coming off a 10-3 record last year. They will get a tough first test, however, and are coming to the game as 22 1/2 point underdogs according to Bodog. The game will feature two outstanding quarterbacks in 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford of Oklahoma and Max Hall of BYU. The teams have only played once against each other with BYU coming out with the victory in 1994. The question remains whether the Cougars handle the pressure of playing in such a big game, in a brand new stadium, with a massive score board.
Oklahoma is coming into Saturday's game with almost a whole new offensive line. This should not be a factor, though. Starting quarterback Sam Bradford will look to improve on his Heisman winning numbers from 2008, but will need alot of help from an offensive line that only returns one starter from last year. Defensively, they come into the 2009 season with arguably one of the best fronts in the country. They will look to give BYU quarterback Hall plenty of pressure all game long.
BYU is coming off its 3rd straight season with 10 wins. All eyes will be on Hall, who like Bradford, will start behind an inexperienced offensive line. He does, however, have plenty of talent around him at the skill positions. Hall got Heisman voters' attention last season in which he passed for 3,957 yards and 35 touchdowns. Defensively, the Cougars are relying on their two safeties and corners being ready to go. Safeties Scott Johnson and Andrew Rich missed time in fall camp due to injuries. They need to be at full speed as the Sooner's quarterback will look to put the ball in the quite often.
