2009 cincinatti bengals season previewThis is a big year for coach Marvin Lewis' future and it all lies in the hands of the 2009 Cincinnati Bengals players. The departure of T.J. Houshmandzadeh will be tough but they got Laveranues Coles to help fill the void. They also had very solid draft this year, couple of guys should have big playing time right away. Andre Smith was taken 6th overall and should be perfect to help out in a position they really needed. Then 38th they picked up Rey Maualuga who was a beast at inside linebacker Southern Cal. and the trojan linebackers usually do very well in the NFL. Somehow the Bengals got a third 1st round pick and they chose Michael Johnson defensive end from Georgia Tech. The Bengals also made some other free agent grabs that should help the defense, they picked up 2 ex-Cowboys strong safety Roy williams and defensive tackle Tank Johnson. Not to mention they still have Carson Palmer who wants to prove to everyone that he is an elite quarterback in the NFL. Chad Johnson changed his name and hopefully his attitude towards the Bengals organization, he is now offically Chad Ochocinco. Chad and Carson are supposed to be roommates for the month of July to help rekindle their relationship. You can get a good look at the Bengals preseason because they will be the team on this years HBO's "Hard Knocks". The Bengals were very competitive last year, though their 4-11-1 record did not show it they were in a lot of close games last year. The defense was not that bad last year, they ranked just outside the top 10 in total defense in 12th position. Cedric Benson got a 2 year deal to stay with the Bengals and will be their starting running back if he is able to stay healthy.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Quarterbacks carson palmer 2009 cincinatti bengals quarterbackThe 2009 Cincinnati Bengals quarterback competition is for second string because Carson Palmer has the starting position. He is hoping to have a much better year than the last year, regardless if he can be blamed for it or not. Carson is a top caliber quarterback, but has not shown it since the knee injury two seasons ago when they were playing the Steelers in the playoffs. The back up job should be in the hands of J.T. O’Sullivan, who they signed this off season. O'Sullivan played for the 49ers last year but was limited to time on the field. The Bengals also have second year quarterback, Jordan Palmer, who should be the third stringer in the rare case that something happens to Carson Palmer and JT. Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson were supposed to be spending a lot of time together in the offseason to help get the mojo back that they lost.

2009 Cincinatti Bengals Running Backs The running backs for the 2009 Cincinnati Bengals is not in the best of shape but they have resigned running back Cedric Benson who only played a handful of games last year. Surely the coaches want to see what he can do with a full season being the starter. They also have Kenny Watson who had some alright numbers last year. Another back they have is DeDe Dorsey who only played 4 games last year due to a hamstring injury.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Receivers chad johnson bengals 2009The 2009 Cincinnati Bengals receivers have had the Chad and T.J. duo have been separated, T.J. went to the Seahawks. The Bengals did find someone to fill that void in Laveranues Coles, who is a good wise receiver. They still have Chris Henry who could actually play a full season. The Bengals also have other receivers who could step up in Andre Caldwell and Jerome Simpson. Two tight ends will battle for playing time Ben Utecht and rookie Chase Coffman.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Offensive Line The 2009 Bengals offensive line will see some changes this year and will hopefully not give up 51 sacks like last year. The 6th pick Andre Smith should take over the left tackle position, where as for the right tackle should be Anthony Collins. Three guys will fight over the center position this year, they are Kyle Cook, Anthony Crummey and Dan Santucci. The guards will be Bobbie Williams and Andrew Whitworth just like last year.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Line The 2009 Bengals defensive line should have Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom going to be the defensive ends. The tackle position should be Domata Peko, who started every game last year. Other tackles fighting for some playing time will be Tank Johnson and Pat Sims.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Linebackers The 2009 Bengals have three pretty damn good linebackers giving them some leadership and experience is Dhani Jones, who is the middle linebacker. The other two spots will go to second year player Keith Rivers and the last spot will go to rookie ReyMaualuga.

2009 Cincinnati Bengals Secondary roy williams bengals safetyThe 2009 Bengals secondary should be solid if they can stay healthy. Newly acquired safeties Roy Williams and Chris Crocker will battle with Chinedum Ndukwe for the starting spots. Cornerbacks should be Jonathon Joseph and Leon Hall if they can stay healthy. If the starters get hurt then the Bengals are going to be in rough shape with a very weak second string sitting on the bench.
