After a 5-11 record last year, the 2009 Oakland Raiders are hoping for a big turnaround for the 2009 NFL Season. Tom Cable will begin his first full season as the team's head coach, and he will hope to build off of two straight wins to end last season. Jamarcus Russell will begin the season as the Raider's starting quarterback. He will need to improve off of his performance last year when he finished the season with a 77.1 quarterback rating. Oakland drafted Russell with the first overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft. Russell has a big arm and has shown flashes of why the Raiders chose him first overall. He will need to be much more consistent in 2009 if Oakland is going to make a push towards the playoffs. The 2009 Oakland Raiders should have a solid running attack led by the explosive Darren McFadden. While he dealt with injuries last season, Justin Vargas picked up the slack rushing for 853 yards. If McFadden can stay healthy this year, the Raiders should be much improved offensively. Oakland has a solid defense led by Nnamdi Asomugha who is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.
