NFL News - July 29th, 2009 - Written by Bruce
The 2010 Super Bowl Odds have the Baltimore Ravens listed at 22-1 to win it all this year. The Ravens are coming off an 11-5 season and an appearance in the AFC Championship Game. Baltimore is returning the NFL's second ranked defense from a season ago. They have had a dominant defense for years and they will once again be a major force to deal with in 2010.
Last year rookie QB Joe Flacco was very impressive and showed he has what it takes to be successful in this league. Baltimore hopes that Flacco is able to improve in his second year. If Flacco can continue to improve and the Ravens defense stays as dominant as years past Baltimore will again be a threat in 2010.
Baltimore lost their Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan this off season and former linebackers coach Greg Mattison will step in to replace him. Whether the defense will continue to be as solid as years past, will be a big factor for the Ravens chances to contend for a title this season. Baltimore has had one of the league's top defenses for many years now, but some of their key players are getting up their in age. If their stars like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs can continue to be as dominant as they have been, Baltimore should once against sport a very formidible defense. With 2010 Super Bowl Betting Odds listing the Ravens at 22-1, Baltimore will need to continue to shut down opposing offenses if they are going to win it all this season.
Joe Flacco played very well for Baltimore as a rookie last season but the team did not ask very much of him trying to bring him along slowly. Flacco showed an ability to step in the pocket and deliver strong accurate passes when called upon. Baltimore will be looking for Flacco to be a much bigger part of their offensive game plan in 2010. If he is able to handle the higher expectations and is again successful with more being asked of him, Baltimore will be a much more dangerous team offensively. The Ravens will still be relying heavily on their running game just like years past. With Willis McGahee, Le'Ron McClain, and Ray Rice all showing they are capable of running the ball effectively, Baltimore will again have a very solid running game. The Ravens ability to improve offensively will be a major factor for them living up to the 2010 Super Bowl Betting Lines.
