Poker News - July 8, 2009 - Written by Bonnie
After quite a disappointing end to Day 1 of the 2009 WSOP, the players that have survived fight their way through exhausting hours of play, in hopes of lasting yet one more day. The final session of Day 1 of the main event left hundreds of poker players with no entry into the final tournaments. Despite extreme effort from WSOP officials, it was decided there was just no way to accommodate all the players that failed to take advantage of early registration. Although many were left without a seat and no chance to advance to Day 2, many well known players filled the seats along with those would managed to survive the first day.
Day 2A filled the Amazon Room with more than 1475 poker players. There was no doubt that this day was going to be exhausting one. It proved to be too exhausting for nearly half of the players as 12 hours of play to place leaving only 630 players left standing. Many of the big names in poker left the tournament much earlier than they may of anticipated. Among those sticking around is poker player Eric Coultier who will end the day with a large stack of 384,000 chips. Ed Perry, Brandon Demes, and Greg "FBT" Mueller join Coultier as one of only eight players to break the 300,000 mark.
Among those not so lucky in the game who took quite an early departure were poker players such as Gavin Smith, Dewey Tomko, Amarillo Slim Preston, Jennifer Tilley, Mike Matusow, Sandra Naujoks, Phil Laak and Gus Hansen.
