Poker News - July 10, 2009 - Written by Bonnie
As players return from a much needed day of rest, we get things rolling again with the start of Day 3 of the 2009 WSOP Main event. Unlike the previous days, Day 3 will not be split between different fields. If you want to see a room full of real pros, Day 3 is definitely the day to be side rail. Today we will get a chance to see the best of the best. All the combined fields of players that have worked hard each tournament to get where they are today, will make up one hell of a day of poker play. Phil Ivey, who is said to be the best all around poker player in the world, managed to make his way to the top of the leader board with 346,200 chips, which is just shy of half less than the chip leader Amir Lehavot who sits with a chip count of 610,500. Not a bad way for both of these poker stars to start out Day 3 of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event.
There is plenty of time for players such as Ivey, to climb even further up the ladder and take out opponents one by one along the way. Although it will be a much bigger struggle for poker players Collins Traniello, Steve Brecher, Nicholas Tsoukalas, and James McMonigle, whom all sit with under 10,000 chips. Which happens to be only a little better than the bottom players Joseph Hanna and Borge Lindoe who will start Day 3 off with less than 3400 chips.
But this is what the tournament is all about. Separating the professionals from the ametuers. Yes, often times a newbie can slip through the cracks and score a tournament win, and if some of the best poker players around can not hold up againast a "newbie" , that new kid on the block deserves to be recognized as a professional.
Although the first few days of the tournament were exhausting, yet entertaining, but it has nothing on what we expect to see in the final days of the 2009 WSOP. This is what we have been waiting for and each tournament gets us closer to crowning the new 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Winner. We have seen how quickly hands can turn around for players so we are expecting Day 3 to be one to remember.
