After a disappointing loss at the end of the season to the rival Eagles, can the 2009 Dallas Cowboys bounce back after not making the playoffs and return to the promise land? The 2009 Dallas Cowboys Season Preview sure has fans excited. With Wade Phillips going into his third season with the Cowboys fans will see a lot of changes on both sides of the ball. With the removal of Brian Stewart (defensive coordinator) head coach Wade Phillips is now in charge of the defensive play calling. The Cowboys did not like the way Stewart was calling plays on 3rd and long and also 4th down situations. The cowboys did make some key offseason moves and acquisitions to improve their team on and off the field. The team now believes that they can play football without any distractions whatsoever.

2009 Dallas Cowboys Free Agency And TradesThe Cowboys traded away a 1st, 3rd, and 6th round picks in 2008 to acquire 6 feet 3 inch Roy E. Williams from Detroit. With Terrell “the terrible teammate” Owens released the Cowboys needed a big receiver to fill the gap. The Cowboys also released a stud in Greg Ellis, but the Cowboys organization has a lot of faith in Anthony Spencer. Spencer who was drafted three years ago out of Purdue is ready to make an immediate impacted.
2009 Dallas Cowboys NFL DraftIn the 2009 Dallas Cowboys NFL Draft consisted of 12 picks and none of them where before the third round. The Cowboys first pick in the 2009 draft was in the third round. Jason Williams an OLB from Western Illinois. The Cowboys needed an OLB to back up Anthony Spencer once they released Greg Ellis. Their next pick was still in the third round at which they selected Robert Brewster OT a 6 feet 4 inches beast weighing in at 324lbs. Brewster won the Outland trophy which means best interior linemen.Continuing on the 2009 draft class for the Dallas Cowboys they selected QB Stephen Mcgee out of Texas A&M in the 4th round. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches no one thought McGee would have gone to the cowboys after they acquired Free agent Jon Kitna. However, the Cowboys see a lot in him with his passing abilities and his arm strength. In the later rounds Jerry Jones wanted a strong CB and Safety after releasing Safety Roy Williams and CB Anthony Henry. They picked CB DeAngelo Smith out of Cincinnati and Safety Michael Hamlin out of Clemson.
2009 Dallas Cowboys QuarterbacksThe 2009 Dallas Cowboys Quarterbacks are fired up for a season of possibilities. Going into his fourth year starting, Tony Romo will lead the Cowboys into the 2009 season with high expectations. With no distractions Romo will have to put the Cowboys into the post season and lead them to Super Bowl XLIV. The Cowboys also signed veteran QB Jon Kitna to back up Romo to make sure their depth at QB is a lock. Romo was hurt for four games and the Cowboys lost all of their drive and went on an awful stretch in the middle of the season going 1-3. With a veteran QB as a backup the cowboys will still be able to win games, unlike last year with back up Brad Johnson.
2009 Dallas Cowboys Running BacksI cannot say enough about the 2009 Dallas Cowboys Running Backs. Marion Barber will be the starting RB for big D. The way he can pound the ball and run over Corners and defensive backs he will make the defense weary. After a brutal running game that Barber brings, Jason Garret can then put in Felix Jones. Jones has a first quick juke then takes off. With his ability to get to the outside he will have no problem busting runs for 40+ yards. Last but not least Tashard Choice, when Marion Barber and Felix Jones went down towards the end of the season Tashard went in and had great games against great defensives. He had huge games against the Steelers and the Ravens both top 5 defenses in the league. If these three RB’s can stay health the Cowboys could be the most dominate running team in the NFL.
2009 Dallas Cowboys Wide ReceiversWhats in store for the 2009 Dallas Cowboys Wide Recievers? With the departure of T.O the Cowboys really do not have any experience at WR except Roy E. Williams. With Roy’s big hand and his extreme height Roy can go to the back of the end zone grab any ball thrown his way. Yes, I know Big D still has Jason Witten and Pratrick Crayton but do not forget about Miles Austin. Austin will be the Cowboys deep threat while Witten and Crayton will be in the middle of the field. Jason Witten led the team in catches last year.
2009 Dallas Cowboys Offensive LineThe Cowboys definitely need to run the ball to make their passing game work. When you have young WR’s the running game will be able to open up play action fake and get the WR open down the field. With Marco Columbo, Leonard Davis, Andrea Gurode, Flozell Adams the cowboys should be able to pound the rock and protect their QB Romo. The key to the a sucessful 2009 Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line is to keep everyone health throughout the year. With the depth the cowboys have at O-line they should be able to get their O-line some rest and keep them fresh throughout the year.
2009 Dallas Cowboys Defensive LineRunning a 3-4 defense puts speed on the field and with speed comes pressure with pressure comes mistakes and that’s what the we want out of their 2009 Dallas Cowboys Defensive Line. With Spears, Bowen, and Anderson they should be able to put pressure on the QB and stop the run. Going into his fifth year as a cowboy, Spears has put immense pressure on QB’s that has led to turnovers. Olshanskey coming from the Charger will be in his first season with the Cowboys but do not forget he has played for Phillips before. Olshanskey knows Wade’s coaching style and techniques. He will be an immediate help for the young D-line.
2009 Dallas Cowboys LinebackersDemarcus Ware led the league in sacks last year with 20 almost breaking the NFL record. If he can continue his dominance the 2009 Dallas Cowboys Linebackers core will be that much better. On the other hand, it will be Spencer’s first full year as a starter. The cowboys also added free agent Keith Brooking to the roster for his leadership qualities. Middle linebacker Bradie James is the core of the LB group. He is the one that wears the head set in his helmet and calls out all of the defensive plays. He also makes sure everyone is where they need to be at all times. However, James did make some big mistakes last year against the Eagles in the last game of the season. We will see how he has improves.
2009 Dallas Cowboys SecondaryThis is what makes the cowboys D average. The cowboys are known for giving up big plays in critical situations. With the departure of Anthony Henry and Adam “Pacman” Jones the cowboys lose man to man corner’s. For the 2009 Dallas Cowboys Secondary to be strong they will definitely need to stay healthy. The guy that surprised the cowboys last year was Orlando Scandrick. As a rookie last season, Scandrick came into Dallas as a nickel back and played very well. Also, Mike Jenkins from South Florida will be a starter for the cowboys in the 2009 season. With his make-up speed he will be able to take chances on the in routes and be able to jump routes. The Boy’s main concern is the deep ball. With the removal of hard hitting SS Roy Williams, Ken Hamlin will have to step it up and make sure no deep routes get by him.
