The 2009 St. Louis Rams have brought in a new regime. Steve Spagnuolo is the new head coach and is going to buy into his system. Steve has been the N.Y. Giants defensive coordinator and he has a super bowl ring. Steven Jackson wants to put last year behind him, while the quarterback situation could be better, Marc Bulger has the job. They lost their best receiver over the past 10 years in Torry Holt. They did have a very good draft this year having the 2nd pick and choosing Jason Smith, a big offensive tackle. The 2009 St. Louis Rams Season Preview doesn't appear to be much more promising than 2008, but we will wait and see.

2009 St. Louis Rams Free Agency And Trades
2009 St. Louis Rams NFL DraftThe Rams really needed to fill the void with Orlando Pace leaving and they did so with their 2009 Rams NFL Draft by adding Jason Smith who is hopefully going to have an early impact to help Marc Bulger and open holes for Steven Jackson. Their second pick improved their size up getting big, physical linebacker James Laurinaitas. The defensive head coach tried to help the defense with their next two picks. Rams cornerback Bradly Fletcher and defensive tackle Dorell Scott.
2009 St. Louis Rams QuarterbacksAs far as the 2009 St. Louis Rams Quarterbacks go, Marc Bulger has the starting job locked down, but I am sure he would really like to improve from last year. This is a big year for him cause if he a doesn’t shine they will have to look elsewhere for help. The rams did go out and sign free agent Kyle Boller who was suppose to be a solid quarterback, but they just need him to be an average back-up. Third string will be a battle between rookie keith Null and Brock Berlin.
2009 St. Louis Rams Running BacksSteven Jackson looks like a beast and 2 years ago ran like one, but last year was a tough season for him. When Jackson runs strong, the Rams offense performs quite well. Jackson is a versatile tailback which can run up the middle, around the edges, or catch balls in the backfield. Jackson runs with a ton of force and is a formidible challenge for any defender. The team is much better when he is in the lineup, but he has missed 5 games each of the last 2 years. The back-up spot for the 2009 St. Louis Rams Running Backs is between Kenneth Darby and Antonio Pittman. They also drafted Chris Ogbonnaya and picked up full back Mike Karney.
2009 St. Louis Rams Wide ReceiversThe rams lost their veteran and best receiver in Torry Holt, but they did see a lot of potential in Donnie Avery as being at the top of their 2009 St. Louis Rams Wide Receivers. He had a couple of spectacular games last year maybe Bulger and him have a connection. Another guy who showed some bright spots last year was Keenan Burton, Dereck Stanley is back after an ACL injury last year. Two more guys are looking for a chance to get some playing time in Laurent Robinson and Brooks Foster. Tight end should be Randy McMichael who also had a season ending injury last year.
2009 St. Louis Rams Offensive LineThey no longer have Orlando Pace, but they do have 2 really good tackles ready to go. Alex Barron showed last year he ready to block anyone in front of him. Than rookie Jason Smith should start opposite side of Barron. Center will be free agent pick up Jason Brown, he was very good in Baltimore. The guard position for the 2009 St. Louis Rams Offensive Line will be a good old fashion who wants it more between Jacob Bell, Ritchie Incognito, John Greco, and Mark Setterstrom.
2009 St. Louis Rams Defensive Line
The 2009 Rams have a lot of questions at the defensive line, because last year there team leader in sacks was James Hall who only had 6.5 sacks in 2008. Hall should start again this year at the end position as for the other end that job is situational. They say if they think it’s going to be a pass, Leonard Little, but if it is going to be a run they will try to get Victor Adeyanju for their 2009 St. Louis Rams Defensive Line. Where for the tackle positions there are four guys competing for starting jobs and playing time. Adam Carriker and Clifton Ryan are looking like they may have an edge on the starting spot, but Darell Scott was selected in their 4th round pick and they have high hopes for him. Orien Harris is looking to revamp his short career that has not been what he was expected to after college.
2009 St. Louis Rams LinebackersThe leading tackler for the defense was Pisa Tinoisamoa who is no longer with the 2009 St. Louis Rams Linebackers. The Rams got their replacement for him in the second round with their James Laurinaitas. He had an excellent career at Ohio State and they have high expectations for him. Wil Witherspoon will move from middle linebacker to weak side. Chris Draft will be the third starter and should be the strong side linebacker at the start of the season.
2009 St. Louis Rams SecondaryThe 2009 St. Louis Rams Secondary is in question, they resign Ron Bartell to keep him at starting cornerback. The other starting spot is still open between Tye Hill and Jonathan Wade, Hill is coming of two straight injury plagued years and Wade is a second year player. Free safety Oshiomongho Atogwe got the franchise tag to keep him for at least year. James Butler followed his coach from the Giants to help teach Spagnuolos’ system and will be the other starting safety.
