seattle seahawks logoThe Seahawks only pulled down 4 wins last season, and they had 15 starters who had to sit out last year. Two year head coach Jim Mora has been looking for a different avenue to victory, but last years losses provided enemy teams with knowledge of different gaps in the Seahawks styles. The main issue the 2009 Seattle Seahawks have to contend with is their defense, and newfound defensive coordinator Casey Bradley will have to kick it up a notch if the Seahawks are going to stick in the game. The offensive string was faced with trouble last season, due to a number of injuries, but players have recovered and returned. Greg Knapp, formor Raiders offensive coordinator, will start his first year with the Seahawks as the offensive coordinator. Knapp will have to keep his offense tight if the Seahawks plan to keep scoring. Robert Prince begins his tenure as the widereceiver's coach of the Seahawks. Prince spent a lot of time in the collegiate, and most recently he spent two years with the Atlanta Falcons as the offensive assistant. Dan Quinn was recently hired as the Defensive line coach, bringing with him his experience from the 49ers and the Miami Dolphins. Mike Phair was also hired fresh to be Quinn's assistant. Tim Lewis was the final addition to the coaching staff for the Seatle Seahawks 2009 season, and he will be in charge of the defensive backs. According to the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Season Preview, they may be able to pull off some more wins this year.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Free Agency And TradesSix players were added to the during the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Free Agency and Trades, counteracting the six they lost. Colin Cole came in from Green Bay, bringing with him his expertise as a defensive tackle. Full Back Justin Griffith of Oakland also came from the western part of the states to bring to the Seahawks an additional fullback. Bengals Wide REceiver T.J. Houshmandzadah will complicate the back of a Seattle jersey in the '09 season. The Seahawks also absorbed Ken Lucas, a cornerback with an all together less complicated surname, from the Carolina Panthers. Loins tight end John Owens left Detroit hoping for a better chance at advancing beyond the failure the Lions have been seeing recently. Cory Redding was the final addition from trades and free agency, bringing another Lions member to the Seahawks, this time a defensive tackle.

2009 Seattle Seahawks NFL DraftThe 2009 Seattle Seahawks NFL Draft brought in seven rookies for the Seahawks. The Seahawks received the fourth pick in the first round, giving them outside line backer Aaron Curry from Wake Forest college. The defensive line has suffered in recent years, and Curry should help bolster their defenses. While he cannot make the defense impregnable, he should help to improve their abilities overall. The second round gave the 49th pick to the Hawks, giving them the Oregon based offensive tackle, Max Unger. Deon Butler came in on the third round - a wide receiver from Penn State. He does not yet have the required experience, but his athleticism is near superhuman. After the proper training, he could become one of the best receivers in the league. The Seahawks had no picks between the third and the sixth round, but they managed to pick up Mike Teel from Rutgers as an additional quarterback who has a strong throwing arm and enormous hieght. Also from Rutgers came Courtney Greene. Greene played the role of safety. He may not become a starter, but he should be able to shine. Oregon player Nick Reed will add to the defensive end, and was the 247th pick. Tight End Cameron Morrah, coming from California, was picked at 248. He is a solid receiver, but needs to improve his ability as a blocker.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Quarterbacksmatt hasselbeck seattle seahawks quarterbackInjuries were a major problem for several teams in the league, and the 2008 Seattle Seahawks were no different. Matt Hasselbeck, quarterback for the Seahawks, was looking at a bulging disk in his spine, and this could still prove to be a problem for him throughout the 2009 Seattle Seahawks season. Should Hasselbeck go down again, it will be Seneca Wallace waiitng to take the reigns, once again. Seneca Wallace had to pull his weight in the 2008 season, throwing almost a dozen touchdown passes and three interceptions. However, there is no doubt that if Hasselbeck is to return to 100%, Wallace will be wearing the headphones. Mike Teel was drafted as one of the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Quarterbacks rookies. It is not likely that Teel will see any action this season, unless it is practice snaps in the 2009 Seattle Seahawks preseason, which is practically the only place Teel will be able to showcase his talents.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Running BacksRunning back Maurice Morris has left into the free agency, giving Julius Jones a chance to redeem himself as one of the main 2009 Seattle Seahawks Running Backs. He will be a starter, despite last years double blunder of fumbles in the Thanksgiving Day game. T.J. Duckett and Jones may be trading off as the lead running back, as both players remain capable of performing the task at hand. The short game will be essential for the Seahawks, and their big bruise boys will have to step up to the line and push through in order to live up to their potential and score some points for much needed wins. New faces should help to improve the ground game for Seattle, as the last few years have not gone well for them.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Wide Receivers tj houshmanzadeh seattle seahawks wide receiverAnother portion of the '08 Seahawks that suffered physical damage was the wide receivers. Deion Branch and Nate Burleson missed a total of 23 games with combined injuries. It seems as though any decent wide receiver that goes to Seattle, just seems to fade away into the mist of the Great Northwest. In one of the bigger free agent moves of 2009, the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Wide Receivers now has the benefit of T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who carrys high hopes on his shoulders. Houshmanzadeh is bringing in over 90 catches in his last three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. The West Coast system should provide Housh an environment in which he can thrive, not to mention score some points. Assuming Burleson and Branch return to full capability, the trio could the prescription that cures Seattle's fever. Tight end John Carlson, receiver of 55 throws in '08, give the Seahawks an additional unit to play with in the short and long game.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Offensive LineInjuries seem to be a trend with teams related to Washington, be it the state or the district. The offensive line was dealt a heavy blow, leaving them without many starters. Walter Jones, the 35 year old lineman, had to undergo knee surgery, and may not have much left on his plate. Center Spencer and Guard Rob Sims missed a plethora of games last season, have returned to health but not necessarily to their previous performance. Sean Locklear is presumed to take over for Jones if he cannot return to play. Max Unger, drafted center from Oregon, made the cut for the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Offensive Line and may end up with a starting position or he may remain a reserve. Blocking will be essential in the '09 season, and coordinators are realizing and pushing for this.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Defensive Line

330 pound juggernaut Colin Cole was added to the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Defensive Line. Another huge player, Cory Redding, was added to the tackles from Detroit. Cole should be starting at the noseguard point, sliding Brandon Mebane over a few notches. Seattle's defense has been lacking players, but if one Patrick Kerney manages to recover from injury, the defense could end up in a much better condition. The Seahawk's pass rushing methods have been coming up short in the past few seasons, but new comers should provide them with a much needed remedy.

2009 Seattle Seahawks Linebackerslofa tatupu seattle seahawks linebackerDespite shortcomings in other locations, the Seahawks have a solid set of 2009 Seattle Seahawks Linebackers returning for the upcoming season. Aaron Curry was drafted high, out of Wake Forest University, to add to the line, and his performance should be more than promsing. The Seahawks see big things for Curry, as demonstrated to their commitment to him and his large contract. Leroy Hill will be covering the outside and the edges for the 2009 Seattle Seahawks defense, and he has be re-signed from free agency. Three of the lines starters are under 26, which is fresh change of pace from the 30 year old plus players. Lofa Tatupu, at one time a very promising linebacker, will play in the middle, with Aaron Curry will be backing him up and hopefully aiding him in shutting down the opposition. D.D. Lewis returns as a veteran to aid all across the board.

2009 Seattle Seahawks SecondaryDeon Grant and Brian Russel both showed a pale performance in '08. Mora has put plenty of stock in these two men, giving them both a chance to improve nad prove themselves worth their salt. Competition brings out the best in a man, as does the fear of losing ones job. Expect a boost in overall effeciency out of these two men. Marcus Trufant only caught a single interception last season, a seventh of his pick offs in '07. Enemy quarterbacks have been refusing to send balls in his direction due to his ability to produce turnovers. Josh Wilson, the undersized cornerback, has quite a few tricks up his sleeve and should continue to out perform some of his teammates and opponents alike. Ken Lucas was brought aboard from Carolina and should raise the average size of the 2009 Seattle Seahawks Secondary a few notches.
