Expectations coming into the 2009 Indianapolis Colts Season Preview are no less than 2008 despite not having their beloved coach Tony Dungy. Dungy had an excellent tenure at Indianapolis for seven years. He helped make Peyton Manning the quarterback he is today. The team had to also cut ties with long time great receiver Marvin Harrison, but the team thinks they have receivers that are young and talented to fill the void at the position. Jim Caldwell has taken over the head coaching job, Caldwell has been working under Dungy since 2001 at Tampa, so Caldwell should not be changing that much with the team on either side of the ball. Hopefully Bob Sanders and the rest of the Colts can stay healthy to make Caldwell first head coaching season go by a lot easier. They used their first draft picks to help out the running game which saw quite a few injuries. Donald Brown was a back who could do everything that was asked of him. They still have Peyton Manning and a receiving core that will not shy away from the ball. If they can see similar results on offense, and improvement on defense, the 2009 Indianapolis Colts could be Super Bowl contenders.

2009 Indianapolis Colts NFL DraftDonald Brown was the number 27th pick overall, and the First Round Selection in the 2009 Indianapolis Colts NFL Draft, and can catch the ball, run the ball, and help block any defender who tries to get at his quarterback. Teams now if you played defense at Southern Cal that you have a great idea of how to play defense in the NFL. That is why the Colts went out and got defensive tackle Fili Moala who has great vision to see where the play is going to go.They tried to help the secondary by drafting Jerraud Powers who played cornerback there. He will probably not start in the secondary but could be very effective in the special teams.

2009 Indianapolis Colts Quarterbackspeyton manning indianapolis colts quarterbackPeyton Manning still is the voice of the Colts offense and the 2009 Indianapolis Colts Quarterbacks, he is pretty much a coach on the field and is calling the plays on his own. In 2008, Peyton missed all of preseason but was ready for the first game of the regular season. He was gone due to an infected bursa sac in his knee which led to Manning's year starting off a little slow. He soon warmed up and threw 27 touchdowns along with 4,002 yards through the air. Jim Sorgi got to play with the first string offensive unit during last years preseason. He will be the back up to Peyton once again this season, the Colts drafted Curtis Painter to start learning from the two veterans.

2009 Indianapolis Colts Running BacksAs long as Joseph Addai can remain healthy he should be the starting Running Back, he is a good Running Back but did have a couple of injuries last season. With the Colts go with a two back rotation normally, the departure of Dominic Rhodes left a hole in the 2009 Indianapolis Colts Runnings Backs. They filled that void with drafting Donald Brown, they say there are no holes in his game. The Colts say he will see a lot of playing time right off the bat this season. Mike Hart is healthy again this year and will be the third string Running Back. He is small but impressed the coaches until he suffered a season ending knee injury on Oct.12.

2009 Indianapolis Colts Wide Receiversreggie wayne indianapolis colts wide receiverWith the departure of Marvin Harrison will not have to much of an effect on the 2009 Indianapolis Colts Wide Receivers, not because he is not talented, but the Colts have other receivers who have already shined. With Reggie Wayne now being the number receiver and you should always expect a big year out of him. Anthony Gonzalez cemented his name into the starting lineup with a breakout year, he has become a great possession receiver. Dallas Clark has always been one Mannings favorite targets. Splitting some time with Clark will be Gijon Robinson, who showed real potential last season. Rookies Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon will battle for the slot receiver position.

2009 Indianapolis Colts Offensive LineJeff Saturday is the leader of the 2009 Indianapolis Colts Offensive Line and has been so for quite a while, the Colts are hoping to have him healthy for the entire year. He missed games at center two different times last season due to two injuries. Guards Charlie Johnson and Ryan Lilja are ready to go for this season, Lilja misses the entire 2008 season and is healthy now. Ryan Diem has become a great offensive tackle with his stay a Colt, starting opposite of Diem will be Tony Ugoh.

2009 Indianapolis Colts Defensive LineThe 2009 Indianapolis Colts Defensive Line still has a lot of speed at the defensive end spot and also very deep in this position. Dwight Freeney is the biggest name and will be starting for the Colts this year. The other starting end has made a decent name for himself, Robert Mathis had a solid year last season. Between those two guys will most likely be Keyunta Dawson and Eric Foster starting at the defensive tackle spot. Backing up the tight ends are Raheem Brock, Marcus Howard, and Curtis Johnson.

2009 Indianapolis Colts Linebackers

Bet Ed Sportsbook For NFL Betting

One of the 2009 Indianapolis Colts Linebackers will be in the same starting spot as he was last season, Gary Brackett will hold down the middle of the linebacking core. They plan on giving Clint Session every opportunity to start for the strong side spot. Two guys who are fighting for some playing time will be Tyjuan Hagler and Freddy Keiaho. Weak side starting position should go to Phillip Wheeler.

2009 Indianapolis Colts Secondarybob sanders indianapolis colts safetyThe 2009 Indianapolis Colts Secondary is scary for any offense if all the main pieces can stay healthy, unlike what happened last season. Marlin Jackson had three outstanding years in a row for the Colts until he missed most of the 2008 season. They missed him at corner last year, but the other starting corner Kelvin Hayden became a great one on one defensive back. Bob Sanders is a beast at the safety position if he can avoid injuries that he had to miss games for. The other safety on the first team is Antoine Bethea, who lead the team in tackles in 2008.
