Our 2009 NFC South season preview will not be the most exciting and neither will the NFC south this year. The four teams comprising the NFC South division are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints. The Panthers won the division a season ago behind a dynamic rushing attack and a solid defense. They finished the year with a 12-4 record. The Atlanta Falcons showed they are once again a team to be reckoned with in the division when they ended that season at 11-5. Tampa Bay finished 3rd in the division sporting a record of 9-7 at seasons end. The Saints had a disappointing 2008 season as they finished at .500 at 8-8. The Carolina Panthers have the division's toughest schedule in 2009 with the 2nd toughest schedule in the NFL. The Saints have the easiest 2009 schedule of the NFC South participants.
Some of the marquee games of 2009 within the division are Week 8 when the Saints host the Falcons and again in Week in 14 when these teams meet up in Atlanta. The last week of the regular season the Panthers will host the Saints in what could be a critical game heading into the playoffs. The New Orleans Saints will have a big year in 2009. Behind the excellent play of QB Drew Brees they will finish the season at 11-5 and become NFC South Division champions. The Atlanta Falcons will have another good season and are poised to be a threat in this division for the next few seasons. Atlanta finishes at 10-6 one game back of the Saints. Carolina will have an excellent running game and a good defense but will struggle at the QB position and finish the season at 8-8. Tampa is going to have a tough time winning games in 2009. This team is a few years away from being a contender and will finish the 2009 season last in the NFC South at 5-11.
2009 New Orleans Saints NFC South Preview New Orleans Saints - The Saints led the NFL in scoring a season ago and will once again have a dynamic offense. QB Drew Brees is coming off a remarkable season in which he threw for over 5,000 yards. The Saints will once again have an explosive passing attack with Jeremy Shockey, Marques Colston, and Devery Henderson as targets for Brees. Reggie Bush will have a big impact on this club both running and catching the ball. The Saints have bolstered their defense with offseason acquistions at nearly every position. With new Defensive Coordinator Greg Williams this unit will be much improved and will play well in 2009. The Saints will light up the scoreboard and be able to stop teams just enough for them to win the division with a 11-5 record.

2009 Carolina Panthers 49ers NFC South Preview Carolina Panthers - The Panthers will keep the same formula they have had with a talented backfield and strong defense. The problem will be QB Jake Delhomme and his inability to make the plays necessary to win games. He will have very costly turnovers throughout the season and will be a weak spot for this Panthers club. With 2 talented RBs in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart the Panthers will still move the ball effectively. The defense will play well and DE Julius Peppers will be a Pro Bowler in 2009. Carolina will finish the season with a record of 8-8.

2009 Atlanta Falcons NFC South PreviewAtlanta Falcons - The Falcons are coming off a strong 2008 season and have found their franchise QB in Matt Ryan. The offseason acquistion of TE Tony Gonzalez will give Matt Ryan a new favorite target and with a strong running game this will be a formidable offense in 2009. The defense is going to take a step back with the loss many players including team leader LB Keith Brooking and CB Domonique Foxworth. It will take a year together for this new defense to gel. The Falcons will again be strong in 2009 finishing at 10-6.

2009 Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFC South PreviewTampa Bay Buccaneers - A trio of talented backs will be the biggest strength of this Tampa Bay team. Earnest Graham, Cadillac Williams, and free agent pickup Derrick Ward will all see some action in the backfield. The defense is young but has some very talented players. The Quarterback position is in question with 1st Round pick Josh Freeman taking over at some point this season. New Head Coach Raheem Morris will have to be patient and wait at least a year to find success in Tampa. The Bucs will struggle all year and will finish the season at a disappointing 5-11.
